Shyama Helin

I am an emerging mixed media artist living and working in Portland, Oregon. With the ability to use both sides of my brain, I divide my time between painting in the art studio and managing complex budgets as an interactive producer.

Illustration and storytelling are key elements in my work. By blending iconic images of the past with modern painting and collage techniques of today, I hope to create artwork that evokes memories, dreams, and fears in the audience. While my own idea of a story is woven into each piece, I strive to create work that is abstract enough to leave room for each viewer’s own interpretation.

Drawing and painting have always been a part of my life, however it is only over the last 3 years that I have focused my efforts on making a living in the arts. I have recently participated in a variety of group shows as well as successfully sold my work online and at art festivals and markets. With my future in mind, I hope to eventually spend more time in the studio and less time in an office.
